145 members urge Rep. Shadegg to reconsider retirement

For a stalwart conservative like Congressman John Shadegg (R-AZ), doing the right thing is its own reward. But it still has to feel pretty good to know that almost 150 of your colleagues think so highly of your work and your commitment to conservative principles that they would formally request that you reconsider stepping down.

Last Friday, a letter was released by Republican Study Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) doing just that. In making the case for Shadegg's sticking around, Hensarling said:

"Your intellectual consistency in defense of the Constitution and passionate
articulation of conservative principles is in need now more than ever. We fear that
without you and the long-term perspective you bring to every debate, our battles will be
difficult to win. This is especially true in the area of health care where you are one of the
leading experts."

High praise indeed, and well deserved by a man who has previously served as the RSC Chairman and who remains a leading figure in most of the key conservative fights on Capitol Hill today.

Here's hoping Mr. Shadegg reconsiders!
