Conservative Strategists See Silver Lining in New Congress

Kenneth Timmerman's assessment of the impact of the elections on the ideological leanings of the next Republican conference is spot-on. He points to the defeats of many self-styled moderates and the overwhelmingly conservative leaning of the incoming freshmen as an indication that the next Congress will feature a Republican party that is more true to its Ronald Reagan roots.

Timmerman quotes Cleta Mitchell, an adviser to the NRSC, as saying: "They went out and recruited candidates who sounded like us. They were pro-gun, pro-life, and opposed runaway spending."

If only they could convince the leaders of their party who will set the agenda for the next two years to see things their way...
