Economic Stimulus the Conservative Way: The Economic Growth Act of 2008

Skeptical of an economic stimulus package that offers a short-term gain at the expense of long-term spending? You're not alone.

In the interest of offering incentive-based stimulus, the Republican Study Committee has put forward the Economic Growth Act of 2008. This four-point plan focuses on businesses, the source of jobs and the engine that drives the American economy.

They advocate:

1. Full, immediate expensing of new assets purchased by businesses
2. A 10 per cent reduction in the top corporate income tax rate
3. Reducing the capital gains tax by allowing assets to index for inflation
4. Simplify the capital gains tax structure to bring corporate rates in line with individual rates
