Fight Taxation of Americans by the UN: The Center for Freedom & ProsperityThe good news for taxpayers is that most governments are now lowering tax rates. When Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher first implemented their pro-growth tax reforms 25 years ago, they triggered a liberalizing process known as tax competition and other nations had to follow suit. As a result, top personal income tax rates in the developed world have dropped by about 23 percentage points and top corporate tax rates have dropped by about 19 percentage points. Now there is a flat tax revolution in Central and Eastern Europe, and once again tax competition deserves much of the credit. The bad news is that high-tax nations are trying to stop this trend and have enlisted international bureaucracies such as the United Nations to fight tax competition, either by imposing taxes at the global level or by imposing tax harmonization policies to hinder the flow of jobs and capital from high-tax nations to low-tax countries. Both approaches would undermine America's competitive position in the global economy, according to the Center for Freedom and Prosperity. CF&P is wholeheartedly supporting Senators James Inhofe's (R-OK) and Ben Nelson's (D-NE) bi-partisan bill (S.3633) to stop the United Nations, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and other international organizations from taxing US citizens and corporations or otherwise interfering with American tax policy. The Center for Freedom and Prosperity (CF&P) is a non-profit organization created to lobby lawmakers in favor of market liberalization. The top project of CF&P is the Coalition for Tax Competition, which is fighting to preserve jurisdictional tax competition, sovereignty, and financial privacy. In addition, the Foundation produces analysis and reports on economic issues, briefs lawmakers and the media on the benefits of limited government, and educates voters on the need for competitive markets. Meanwhile, the CF&P's top project is The Coalition for Tax Competition (CTC) which will organize opposition to the multiple threats facing taxpayers. Working with targeted governments, financial institutions, multi-national businesses, and interested individuals, the CTC will fight against proposals to undermine financial privacy and create a global tax cartel. The Center for Freedom and Prosperity Foundation was founded in 2000 to address the rapidly developing issue of jurisdictional tax competition. The Foundation will provide needed balance to this debate, and also address related issues such as fiscal sovereignty and financial privacy. The Foundation's first major project will be the Tax Competition Project. The Project will focus on research and education. For more information on CF&P programs and initiatives visit their website.
