Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) proved her loyalty to the trial lawyer lobby again when she rejected a proposal to protect firefighters who assist families in their community with the proper installation of child safety seats from frivolous lawsuits, according to officials at the National Republican Congress Committee.

Increasingly, fire departments are reluctant to assist parents with child car seat installation because of their fear of being slapped with a frivolous lawsuit in the event of an accident.  Giffords voted against a motion which would have provided liability protections to these firefighters so they can continue to provide this invaluable service to moms and dads in their community.

"Gabrielle Giffords is willing to go great lengths to protect the trial lawyer lobby, even when it comes at the cost of protecting children and families in Arizona,"said NRCC spokesman Ken Spain."Giffords has done a disservice to the communities in her district by putting her loyalty to her Democrat leaders in Washington and their trial lawyer friends ahead the needs of her constituents in Arizona."

Approximately 2,446 children under the age of 14 die in a motor vehicle incident each year.  This is a clear indication that child safety services are vital to protecting our nation's children. In a study conducted by the National Institute of Highway Safety in 2005 concluded that approximately 73 percent of child restraint systems had at least one critical misuse.When will Gabby Giffords start protecting the courageous rescue workers who sacrifice their lives for our nation's safety and stop politically pandering to the trial lawyer lobby?
