"This is not how the process is supposed to work."Read my lips...no new earmarks! Those may not have been the exact words, but that was the promise of the "Most Ethical Congress in History" and its leaders when they took power. It didn't take long for that quaint notion to fall by the wayside. The next example of the Democrats' "ethical" approach to earmark reform is coming up for a vote in the very near future: the upcoming defense authorization bill contains no fewer than 680 projects that are earmarked for federal spending. But you won't see them debated on the floor. You won't see Democrats rise to defend their merits and their connections to our nation's defense. The House Committee on Rules & Oversight has failed to rule as in order four amendments prepared by Congressman Flake. These amendments would have brought four of the more egregious earmarks to the floor for discussion, forcing Democrats to explain why they continue to lard spending bills with projects that are easily identified as earmarks by everyone BUT the Democratic leadership.
