Biography
Jim Jordan was born and raised in Champaign County, Ohio, where he and his wife Polly still live, and where they are raising their four children, Rachel, Ben, Jessie, and Isaac. It is one of the eleven counties in the 4th District that he has the honor to represent.
Jim graduated from Graham High School in 1982, where he was a four-time state champion wrestler with a career record of 150-1. He went on to the University of Wisconsin to earn my Bachelor's degree in Economics and was also a two-time NCAA Division 1 wrestling champion. He later earned a Master's degree in Education from The Ohio State University and a Law Degree from Capital University.
Jim was first elected to public office in 1994 as part of the Republican Revolution. He served in the State House for six years, and the State Senate for another six years. During his tenure, Jim received the Outstanding Legislator Award from the United Conservatives of Ohio as well as the Leadership in Government Award from the Ohio Roundtable and Freedom Forum.
Jim has been a conservative all his life, receiving a perfect 100 score from the American Conservative Union for his first term in Congress. He believes that families and taxpayers, not the government, know best how to make decisions with their money. He has led the fight against tax hikes, including those proposed by his own party. Jim believes that cutting taxes and letting families keep more of what they earn helps build strong communities and a vibrant economy. In recognition of his efforts, he has been honored by the annual awards from the National Tax Limitation Committee, Americans for Tax Reform, and the National Taxpayers Union. In addtion to cutting taxes, we have to keep federal spending under control. During his first term in Congress, Jim offered more spending cuts than any other member of Congress.
He has also been a staunch defender of the traditional family values that make this country great. Jim have been honored in the past to be named Pro-Life Legislator of the Year by the United Conservatives of Ohio, as well as receiving the Defender of Life Award from the Ohio Right to Life. He has led the fight on pro-family issues in our state from protecting the unborn to defending trational marriage, and making sure that parents have the tools to build a brighter future for their children through school choice.
Jim has also been a vocal supporter of a strong national defense and completing the mission in Iraq and Afghanistan so our men and women in uniform can come home in honor and victory. We must maintain our vigilance in the Global War on Terror so that we are fighting radical Islamic extremists abroad and not at home. We must also secure our borders and enforce our nation's laws to stop illegal immigration so that families who long to come to America can do so the right way; by learning English, gaining legal citizenship, and becoming Americans.
