House Conservatives Fund Celebrates Conservative Wins by Latta and WittmanFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE "Decisive victories reflect the continued success of Republicans WASHINGTON, DC - The House Conservatives Fund (HCF) racked up two early victories last night, celebrating wins by endorsed candidates Bob Latta (OH-5) and Rob Wittman (VA-1). In each of these special elections, a solid conservative candidate emerged to represent Republicans in the general election and to defeat their Democrat opponents handily. "Bob Latta and Rob Wittman ran exceptional campaigns in the high-pressure environment of special elections," said Congressman Tom Feeney, HCF Chairman. "Their commitment to core Republican values - limited government, defense of life and the Second Amendment, fiscal restraint - and their strong stances on illegal immigration were well-received by voters in Ohio and Virginia. These resounding victories reflect the continued success of Republicans who run as true conservatives instead of racing their liberal opponents to the middle. "We Republicans need to remember these wins as we head into the upcoming primary season," Feeney continued. "We cannot allow ourselves to be misled by the media and Republicans who would have us compromise our way to permanent minority party status. When Republican candidates run as true conservatives and offer voters a real choice between our vision of America and that of the Democrats, we win. When we try to compete with liberals on spending and social issues, we fail the voters and we fail ourselves." The results speak for themselves, and they constitute a referendum on liberal Democrat incompetence on a grand scale. In Ohio's Fifth District, State Representative Bob Latta overcame a concerted effort by the DCCC and liberal interest groups who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to try to pick up a traditionally Republican seat. What was expected to be a very close race as a result of that liberal onslaught ended in a 14-point Republican victory, duplicating the results of the 2006 election. In Virginia's First District, a Republican stronghold, Delegate Rob Wittman took roughly 63 percent of the vote against an Iraq War veteran who was heavily supported by unions, top state Democrats and popular former Governor Mark Warner. Wittman's win percentage matched that of his popular conservative predecessor, Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis. These seats remain firmly in Republican hands as a result of voters' support for true-blue conservatives. This continues a trend that was seen on Election Night 2006, even while centrist Republicans were being beaten across the country. At least ten of the thirteen newly-elected Republican Members of Congress won their primaries and general elections by campaigning as unapologetic Ronald Reagan conservatives, and relatively few conservative incumbents were defeated despite the toxic political environment. The House Conservatives Fund is a non-connected federal PAC which supports Republican candidates and incumbents who demonstrate a commitment to economic and socially conservative issues. HCF advocates fiscal responsibility, limited government intrusion into the private sector, strong defense, and traditional family values.
