"The best possible candidate to take back this historically Republican seat."

WASHINGTON, DC - After careful consideration of both Republicans seeking the nomination in Texas' 22nd Congressional District, the House Conservatives Fund (HCF) today announced their endorsement of Pete Olson, a former naval aviator and Chief of Staff to Senator John Cornyn. His record of service at all levels and his demonstrated commitment to national security and fiscal responsibility put him in good position to defeat the incumbent and take back the seat that was held by Congressman Tom Delay for more than twenty years.

"Of all the seats that were lost by Republicans in 2006," said Congressman Tom Feeney, HCF Chairman, "this is the one that we are most eager to regain. It is of the utmost importance that our Republican nominee is someone with the experience, values and leadership to prevail in November. I am confident that Pete Olson is the best possible candidate to take back this historically Republican seat."

Like many conservative organizations, the House Conservatives Fund refrained from endorsing any of the ten candidates in the Republican primary that occurred on March 4th, a reflection of the field's strong conservative make-up and the uncertainty created by such a large pool of candidates. Of the two candidates who advanced to the run-off that will occur on April 8th, Pete Olson is the Republican viewed as having the better chance of victory. His work with NASA, the military and key infrastructure developments on behalf of Senators Gramm and Cornyn demonstrates his knowledge of the needs of the district, and his history of successfully working with the other Members of the Texas Delegation will allow him to hit the ground running immediately upon taking office.

"Historically, the House Conservatives Fund has made it a point to support the most electably conservative candidate in every race we weigh in on," continued Feeney. "In this case, Pete Olson's combination of military and legislative experience makes him a formidable opponent for an incumbent who claims to be a conservative Democrat but supports Nancy Pelosi and her liberal agenda when push comes to shove. With Pete Olson as their voice in Congress, the citizens of Texas' 22nd District will be truly represented once again."

The House Conservatives Fund is a non-connected federal PAC which supports Republican candidates and incumbents who demonstrate a commitment to economic and socially conservative issues. HCF advocates fiscal responsibility, limited government intrusion into the private sector, strong defense, and traditional family values.
