WASHINGTON, DC - Last night, Colorado's Fifth Congressional District elected State Senator Doug Lamborn in a primary that went down to the wire. One of six candidates who sought to succeed Congressman Joel Hefley, Lamborn won the race with 27%. Lamborn succeeded in distinguishing himself as the candidate with the proven conservative record, a must in a district that President Bush won by 33 points in 2004.

Helping Senator Lamborn to make his case as a proven conservative, the House Conservatives Fund issued its fifth endorsement in an open-seat primary this cycle. In his letter endorsing Lamborn, House Conservatives Fund Chairman Tom Feeney cited Lamborn's actions in the Senate on pro-life legislation, immigration, and support for the President and the military as indications that "he knows what it means to be a leader in the fight for our conservative values." Lamborn’s role as a founder of the Colorado Republican Study Committee (modeled on the Congressional RSC chaired by Congressman Mike Pence) was also applauded by Chairman Feeney.

Senator Lamborn's conservative record was recognized by numerous fiscal and social conservative organizations, whose endorsements are credited with driving his victory. In addition to the House Conservatives Fund, Lamborn was endorsed by Concerned Women PAC, National Right to Work PAC, the National Pro-Life Alliance PAC, the Republican National Coalition for Life PAC, Gun Owners of America, and the Club for Growth.

With this victory, the House Conservatives Fund remains undefeated in its support of candidates in contested Republican primaries. Doug Lamborn joins Congressman John Campbell (CA-48), Ohio State Senator Jim Jordan (OH-4), Nebraska State Senator Adrian Smith (NE-3), and Idaho State Representative Bill Sali (ID-1), all of whom won their contested open-seat primaries with the support of the House Conservatives Fund. In each case, HCF-endorsed candidates successfully defeated credible (even formidable) moderates to ensure that voters will have a clear choice between a conservative Republican and a liberal Democrat in November.

Next, the House Conservatives Fund turns its attention to the Nevada primaries next Tuesday, when State Assemblywoman Sharron Angle seeks to win a three-way primary against two fiscally and socially liberal Republican opponents in the Second Congressional District.

The House Conservatives Fund is a non-connected federal PAC supported by the members of the Republican Study Committee. They are dedicated to the identification and support of candidates who demonstrate a commitment to economic and social conservative issues. HCF advocates fiscal responsibility, limited government intrusion into the private sector, strong defense, and traditional family values. They have endorsed more than a dozen candidates and incumbents this cycle.
