"A pro-life champion and a true fiscal conservative."
WASHINGTON, DC - The House Conservatives Fund today announced its second endorsement of the 2008 election cycle, offering its support to Congresswoman Melissa Hart in her rematch against Jason Altmire.
In just three terms in Congress, Hart quickly emerged as a leader on fiscal issues and a voice for victims of violent crimes, including the unborn. She was the author of the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which was signed into law. It allows federal prosecutors to charge criminals with two counts when a violent action against a pregnant woman also harms her unborn child. Hart also led the fight to repeal the death tax, a fight which is still ongoing today. Throughout her tenure in Congress, Melissa Hart's efforts to reinvigorate the manufacturing and business bases in her district were well documented.
"For six years, Melissa Hart truly and ably represented the people of Pennsylvania's Fourth District," said House Conservatives Fund Chairman Tom Feeney. "She is a pro-life champion and a true fiscal conservative whose positions reflect those of her constituents, who want less spending and more common sense in government. We are thrilled that she has chosen to fight for her seat, rather than allowing her opponent to continue to put the interests of the Democrat majority before the people of this PA District."
Though the primary will not occur until April of next year, the House Conservatives Fund chose to issue this endorsement now, showing the depth of their support for Congresswoman Hart's campaign to reclaim this seat. Hart's fundraising strength in the third quarter - the first quarter since she announced her intention to run - was a major factor in the HCF's decision to offer such early support.
The House Conservatives Fund is a non-connected federal PAC which supports Republican candidates and incumbents who demonstrate a commitment to economic and socially conservative issues. HCF advocates fiscal responsibility, limited government intrusion into the private sector, strong defense, and traditional family values.
